I'm with you Sentinel- I just recently gave my mother a HUGE box of her books back. The ONLY thing I kept was a bible my dad gave me- and signed- then two weeks before he died- I showed up at a meeting- he took my bible- wrote LOVE YA & signed & dated it. Of course I will treasure that- because of his writing in it-but not for the translation, or anything else about it! Speaking of literature- does anyone know if there was something between 1995-1997 in PRINT that said the end would DEFINETLY come before the new millineum? I seem to recall when I was disfellowshipped my mom emailed me that there was an article coming out with that written in it- and my brother had inside info from someone in bethel- or some crap like that. I asked her about it the other day- she said the society has NEVER put in print a time or date of the end, or when it would or would not come- over zealous witnesses might-but not the society. (YEAH RIGHT!) Would love to find out though if it was in print- sometime in the late 90's.

I Just Can't Do It!
by Sentinel ini was rather surprised to see this subject in the forum, and so it peeked my curiousity.. when i was floundering in the borg, i really slowed down to a snails pace as far as reading any of the wt literature.. when i decided to walk away, (at the time with guilt and self doubt), i got rid of all the literature.
i had not renewed my wt subscribtion, and was not getting any other literature in the mail.
so, there was nothing coming in.

Double Standards
by Perfection Seeker indid anyone else have witness parents who the congregation thought were the "model" family, yet behind closed doors all hell broke loose?
i remember a time when my family was choosen to do a part at an assembly about the ideal family- yet behind the scenes, we were beat, yelled at, sworn at, never studied, had a family from hell, yet others always commented how "perfect" and christian our family was.
being a witness leaves deep & permanent scars.

Want to meet halfway? :-) I am in Iowa- what state are you in? I think the double standards & behind closed doors was pretty much a given in the organization. What family could really truly live up to those standards all the time? My brother went to Bethel, he is now an elder, my other brother a servant, my dad was a servant- hard to "respect" them all knowing what I did. Course, I never did respect them :-) My ENTIRE family is at the district convention right now. I feel SO sorry for them- 8 hours- 3 days- I remember sitting there so tired & brain dead- watching the clock- and having it NEVER move- the ONLY thing that kept me awake was the constant clapping. How long were you "in"? I am so glad to be out. My gosh.

Most Embarrasing Witness Moment from Childhood
by Perfection Seeker inanyone on here have a "most embarrasing witness moment" from childhood?

My mom didn't even let me attend the "sex ed" classes- even the first ones that seperated boys & girls- the girls just learded about "periods" and general stuff- I was to be "excused" because it wasn't appropriate! I am still in the BITTER stage- but hope to kick over to the forgive & forget stage- but things like this voting, sex ed- being excused from EVERYTHING! Maybe I will go back to school to be a Ex Witness therapist- looks like there would be PLENTY of clients! :-) Thanks for writing- feeling better already! :-) (I could NEVER have even told the voting for GODS KINGDOM story to my husband- he would NEVER have grasped the depth of it- so nice to get it off my chest!)

HI! Anyone on here have a "most embarrasing witness moment" from childhood? Mine is from 7th grade- that was 20 years ago- but I still cringe when I think of it. Almost too hard to write down- but maybe it will be therapeutic & part of the healing process? You can go ahead & laugh- but still to this day I am NOT laughing about it! I was 13- they announced the next day we would be voting for class officers. I went home & asked my mom if it was wrong to vote- she said "VOTE FOR GODS KINGDOM" Well, the next day- voting began- three options 1) Brooke 2) Gregg 3) Other. Well, I put a mark on OTHER & wrote GODS KINGDOM. So, later in the day- the intercom came on- they announced the scores for class officers: Brooke received 73 votes, Gregg received 62 votes, and 1 vote for Gods Kingdom. Part of me died that day. I am cringing just writing this! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE someone post something equal or worst- so I know I was not the only messed up 13 year old!

Will this work?
by SpiceItUp inok. i am thinking of trying this to maybe get my family to start questioning things.. here's what i want to do.
i want to get one of the ray franz books and casually leave it available for them to pick up.
my mother is not that bright to where she may think its something my dad brought home and open it up.

HI! Seems like ALL the witnesses know about Franz being an apostate & not to touch that book. I think the cover alone would give it away. BUT, if you read the crisis of conscience book on your own- you will get SEVERAL tips on how to proceed. It was VERY eye opening to me & helpful in dealing with my family. GOOD LUCK!

Sentinel- Your mom is mild compared to mine! :-) My mother would be the FIRST to strap on a bomb if the "organization" asked her to. She follows them closer than Osama's clan! You've replied to my posts before- sounds like we have been through alot of the same stuff. When will it ever end!?!? Hey- at least your mom still takes your calls :-)

Joannadandy- I can't believe how your reply was close to how I feel! Isn't it a shame we always look over our shoulders & have to worry how it "LOOKS" to others? I was talking to my sister yesterday about how in our congregation, if a man & woman were alone out in service or dropping one off- one would sit in the backseat. Now, tell me how THAT looked to ANYONE looking at it? Almost suspicious! What are they all afraid of? If a man & a woman are sitting by each other in a car-they'd have sex or something? If two people want to- they will- front seat, or back seat :-)
